The Madison Athenaeum It is increasingly clear that institutions of higher education in the United States need to invest time, expertise and resources in two projects: conveying to secondary schools expecations for success at the university level and helping students in those secondary schools to prepare for the challenges they will meet in the university. In response to these two concerns, The Madison Center has developed the Madison Athenaeum.
Athenaeum Faculty and Staff The Athenaeum is run by faculty and staff at Delta State University and is designed to help students make the transition between high school and university. Faculty have been chosen because of their subject-matter expertise and their dedication to teaching. The tutors and support staff participate in the program only with the recommendation of DSU faculty. Resident assistants in the dormitories are experienced with dorm rules and regulations and have experience as Resident Assistants.
The Athenaeum and Academics The singular purpose of the Athenaeum is academic. As will be seen in the course schedule, students will have opportunities to learn across several disciplines taught at a freshman university level.
New Offerings This year's Athenaeum will incorporate two new offerings. Professor Karen Fosheim will offer an African drumming course. Mr. LeMorris Hunt will bring students together for an hour of choral music. We hope parents will join us in a couple of weeks for a presentation of student work.
